2017 To-Be-Read Piles · Bookish Fun!

June TBR

Hey Guys! I will be doing my ‘June To-Be-Read piles’ today! I finished reading 2 books last month which were King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard and The Crimson Guild by Allan Walsh. I will be linking the book reviews down below:

I am quite disappointed with myself because I read only two books last month. Two. Thus, this month, I will be reading 11 books. Yes, 11 books and I am determined to finish them all!

So, without further ado, let’s get into the To-Be-Read piles!

1. Atlantia by Ally Condie

Image result for atlantia

Synopsis:

Set within a civilization that lives deep beneath the sea, twin sisters, Rio and Bay, are about to make the most important decision of their lives. Will they choose to stay Below, sacrificing their soul but living in happiness, or to go Above, keeping their soul but living in weakness and misery. No one could have predicted their choice.

This book is pretty high up in my June TBR list right now. It sounds super interesting and look at that cover… Isn’t it gorgeous? It definitely is beautiful! Just, two words: Can’t wait!

2. Klubbe the Turkle and the Golden Star Coracle by Phillip Dodd

Image result for klubbe the turkle

Synopsis:

On the planet Ankor, Klubbe the turkle lives as a hermit. A marine mishap inspires him to be an inventor. His inventions and explorations change his life, his entire planet.

Turkles are close cousins of turtles. Unlike them, they have yellow golden skin and back shells, have the gift of language, and the ability to create their own culture.
The life of Klubbe may read like a light-hearted science fiction story, but it actually happened to him. Princess Corka thinks his invention is sublime. Ubbtosh, the pyramid priest, promises to guide him to the core of the cosmos. In space, there are no sign posts, he finds, but there are other beings. And on Ankor, there are mysteries to be solved. Is the Great Glom more than a myth? And what about the Great Archy Eopta?

I am currently reading this book. Actually, I have not started it yet, but I will be getting on with it very soon!

3. Zombies VS. Unicorns by Holly Black, Kathleen Duey, Meg Cabot, Garth Nix, Margo Lanagan, Naomi Novik, Diana Peterfreud, Justin Larbalestier, Libba Bray, Cassandra Clare, Maureen Johnson, Scott Westerfeld, Carrie Ryan & Alaya Dawn Johnson

Image result

Synopsis:

It’s a question as old as time itself: which is better, the zombie or the unicorn? In this anthology, edited by Holly Black and Justine Larbalestier (unicorn and zombie, respectively), strong arguments are made for both sides in the form of short stories. Half of the stories portray the strengths–for good and evil–of unicorns and half show the good (and really, really bad-ass) side of zombies. Contributors include many bestselling teen authors, including Cassandra Clare, Libba Bray, Maureen Johnson, Meg Cabot, Scott Westerfeld, and Margo Lanagan. This anthology will have everyone asking: Team Zombie or Team Unicorn?

This book sounds like a fun and quick read and I can’t wait to read this book! (Fun Fact: Some of my favourite authors co-written this book)

4. Night film by Marisha Pessel

Image result for night film

Synopsis:

On a damp October night, beautiful young Ashley Cordova is found dead in an abandoned warehouse in lower Manhattan. Though her death is ruled a suicide, veteran investigative journalist Scott McGrath suspects otherwise. As he probes the strange circumstances surrounding Ashley’s life and death, McGrath comes face-to-face with the legacy of her father: the legendary, reclusive cult-horror-film director Stanislas Cordova—a man who hasn’t been seen in public for more than thirty years.

For McGrath, another death connected to this seemingly cursed family dynasty seems more than just a coincidence. Though much has been written about Cordova’s dark and unsettling films, very little is known about the man himself.

Driven by revenge, curiosity, and a need for the truth, McGrath, with the aid of two strangers, is drawn deeper and deeper into Cordova’s eerie, hypnotic world.

The last time he got close to exposing the director, McGrath lost his marriage and his career. This time he might lose even more.

I don’t normally read Mystery, Suspense, or Crime but Night Film’s synopsis intrigued me and therefore, I picked it up. I did hear some great things about this book and now, I really cannot wait to read it!

5. Feed by M.T Anderson

Image result

Synopsis:

Identity crises, consumerism, and star-crossed teenage love in a futuristic society where people connect to the Internet via feeds implanted in their brains.

For Titus and his friends, it started out like any ordinary trip to the moon – a chance to party during spring break and play with some stupid low-grav at the Ricochet Lounge. But that was before the crazy hacker caused all their feeds to malfunction, sending them to the hospital to lie around with nothing inside their heads for days. And it was before Titus met Violet, a beautiful, brainy teenage girl who has decided to fight the feed and its omnipresent ability to categorize human thoughts and desires.

This book sounds so interesting and scary at the same time. I can’t wait to read this and see how I feel about it!

6. Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Image result

Synopsis:

The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

I believe this is a New Adult novel and I can’t wait to read it! {Please recommend me some New Adult novels down at the comment section below}

7. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

Image result for twilight book

Synopsis:

About three things I was absolutely positive.

First, Edward was a vampire.

Second, there was a part of him—and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be—that thirsted for my blood.

And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

In the first book of the Twilight Saga, internationally bestselling author Stephenie Meyer introduces Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, a pair of star-crossed lovers whose forbidden relationship ripens against the backdrop of small-town suspicion and a mysterious coven of vampires. This is a love story with bite.

I will be reading this very soon! I promise.

8. Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedgwick

Image result

Synopsis:

Have you ever had the feeling that you’ve lived another life? Been somewhere that has felt totally familiar, even though you’ve never been there before, or felt that you know someone well, even though you are meeting them for the first time? It happens.

In a novel comprising seven parts, each influenced by a moon – the flower moon, the harvest moon, the hunter’s moon, the blood moon – this is the story of Eric and Merle whose souls have been searching for each other since their untimely parting.

This book is very short and I love Marcus Sedgwick’s writing style! Therefore, I cannot wait to read this book!

9. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Image result

Synopsis:

Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed.

Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr.

But what Starr does or does not say could upend her community. It could also endanger her life.

Yes, before you ask, I have already read and review this book. I will be linking this book’s review down below:

I read this book on May 28th and I finished this on June 1st, so it technically counts as a June read… So, [10/11 more books to read!]

10. Noggin by John Corey Whaley

Image result

Synopsis:

Listen — Travis Coates was alive once and then he wasn’t.

Now he’s alive again.

Simple as that.

The in between part is still a little fuzzy, but he can tell you that, at some point or another, his head got chopped off and shoved into a freezer in Denver, Colorado. Five years later, it was reattached to some other guy’s body, and well, here he is. Despite all logic, he’s still 16 and everything and everyone around him has changed. That includes his bedroom, his parents, his best friend, and his girlfriend. Or maybe she’s not his girlfriend anymore? That’s a bit fuzzy too.

Looks like if the new Travis and the old Travis are ever going to find a way to exist together, then there are going to be a few more scars.

Oh well, you only live twice.

Again, I have read this book and I read it in June. So, [9/11 more books to read]. I will be linking my review for this book down below:

11. The Giver by Lois Lowry

Image result

Synopsis:

It’s a perfect world, where everything looks right. But ugly truths lie beneath the surface…

It is the future. There is no war, no hunger, no pain. No one in The Community wants for anything. Everyone is provided for. Each Family Unit is entitled to one female and male child. Each member of The Community has their profession carefully chosen for them by the Committee of Elders, and they never make a mistake.

Jonas, a sensitive twelve-year-old boy, had never thought there was anything wrong with his Community, until one day. From the moment Jonas is selected as the Receiver of Memory at The Ceremony, his life is never the same. Jonas discovers that The Community is not as perfect as it seems. Although they appear to have everything, they are missing something of great importance. It is up to Jonas, with the help of the Giver, to find what long ago had been lost. And so Jonas embarks on an adventure to save the world as he knows it.

Yet again, I have finished this book but I have not reviewed it yet. It will be up soon so, stay tune! [8/11 more books to read]

  1. You have some good choices here! The Giver, for sure, is pretty awesome. I’ve read Matched by Ally Condie, and remember liking it, so I’m curious Atlantia. And, I believe Beautiful Disaster was pretty good too.

Good luck in reading 11 books this month! You can do it! 🙂

  2. 11 BOOKS?! I am so jealous. I’ve had to put down reading for the moment to solely focus on exams, so I’ll get my reading kick from reading your reviews! Good luck though, you’ve got this! I’ve read Twilight (loved it, massive Twihard from an early age) and re-reading it is one of my goals for this year. Have you seen the films?

  3. There are a few books on here that are on my June TBR as well! School’s out = more time to read!! 😂 I agree, the cover of Atlanta is like BREATHTAKINGLY gorgeous. I pondered reading that one a little while ago, but I wasn’t a fan of Condie’s Matched trilogy soooo… Also Twilight has been sitting on my shelf for months and months and I still haven’t gotten to it; a little afraid it won’t live up to the hype because of the obvious hate for it constantly floating around the world of book blogging haha.

  4. It’s great to see the sum of your Tbr for June, looking forward to see how you enjoyed the read. I admire all the bloggers who can stick to their tbr’s, I really cannot. I can possibly stick to one week’s plan, but I might have visited library (kindle or books for review) and end up having new books which I may want to read instantly.

  5. Wow! 11 books is a pretty huge TBR! I’ll be reading The Hate U Give next month but it’s something I’ve been looking forward to for a while. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. And while I’m much more skeptical of Twilight than I was back in the day, I hope you enjoy it. It was one of my first loves in the YA genre so it holds a lot of nostalgic value for me. Can’t wait to see what you think of it! Good luck in reading all these wonderful books 😀

  6. Ooh! I liked Atlantia! Better than Matched, actually. Feed is a bit dated now, but still great, and The Giver, of course, is fantastic. I never have a TBR. I just grab whatever looks new and shiny as it comes across my desk. 😅

  7. If you end up liking Feed, try Ready, Player One by Ernest Cline. My son loved it! They are going to be doing a movie version as well.

  8. I’ve got a feeling that you’d enjoy a book called daughter of chaos. It has 2 sequels. Maybe you can fit it in your reading list somewhere 🙂
