“It is a dangerous thing to unbelieve something only because it frightens you”-   Heartless, Marrisa Meyer.

Synopsis:

Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland and a favorite of the unmarried King, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, she wants to open a shop and create delectable pastries. But for her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for a woman who could be a queen.

At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the King’s marriage proposal, she meets handsome and mysterious Jest. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into a secret courtship.

Cath is determined to choose her own destiny. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.

Writing:

The writing style for this book was well-turned, crisp and stylistic! I loved the way Marrisa described the things around Catherine and I also loved the fact that we get to be inside of Catherine’s (A.K.A: Queen Of Hearts in her youth) head.

Pacing:

It took me awhile to get into the story, but I have grown to love the story after I got passed the first 100 pages of the book.

Characters:

Catherine: She’s a great character in this book! She was a really kind girl before she turned into this, evil, Queen Of Hearts which is sad because [Spoiler].

Jest: He’s the Court Joker in this book. He’s funny, whimsy and witty. I loved his relationship with Catherine! It’s so beautiful.

Mary Ann: She was Catherine’s maid and her best friend. Her character development in this book was… EXTREMELY GOOD!

Catherine’s Parents: They were so cruel to Catherine! I dislike them very much! But that ending, well, they deserved it.

Overall:

I give this book a 96.85% rating! I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH! I highly recommend you all to read this!

This is the end of my spoiler-free review! I hope you all enjoyed it and follow me with your email/wordpress account to get notifications when I post a new article! Bye!

  1. Rather timely review as I have literally just bought this within the past half hour as I loved the Lunar Chronicles. Your 96.85% rating indicates to me I may have made the right choice!

  4. I absolutely adore Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and so to hear of a re-telling but not based on Alice herself, but the queen of hearts? Sign me up, I will so be adding this to my TBR. And speaking of Marissa Meyer, have you read the Lunar Chronicles series?
