Hey World! Today, I will be doing a review on Carve The Mark by Veronica Roth (Carve The Mark #1). This is a spoiler free review! So, without further ado, let’s get into it!
*Note: All thoughts and opinions are on my own.*
“‘Every current carries a curse.’ He said, ‘But no gift is only a curse.'” – Carve The Mark, Veronica Roth.
Synopsis:
In a galaxy powered by the current, everyone has a gift.
Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power — something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.
Akos is the son of a farmer and an oracle from the frozen nation-planet of Thuvhe. Protected by his unusual currentgift, Akos is generous in spirit, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get this brother out alive — no matter what the cost.
The Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, and the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. Will they help each other to survive, or will they destroy one another?
Writing:
Veronica’s writing style has improved. Her writing style for this book’s crisp and idiomatic. However, the pacing for this book’s so slow. The characters in this book are complex and sometimes humorous.
Characters:
Akos and Cyra: I loved both of them so much! They’re very interesting and they’re very cool.
Ryzek and Eijeh: I actually blamed Eijeh for killing [Spoiler removed]. Ryzek’s a character that you will want to slap and punch because he’s so annoying and evil.
Overall:
I give this book a 62% rating. I liked it but I didn’t love it.
Quotes:
“‘I can’t watch you destroy yourself for someone who doesn’t want to be saved.” – Carve The Mark, Veronica Roth.
“The darkness was pain, and I was made of it, I was pain itself.” – Carve The Mark, Veronica Roth.
This is the end of my spoiler free review! I hope you all enjoyed it and follow me with your email/wordpress account to get notifications when I post a new article! Bye!
Great review! 62% definitely sounds fair – I honestly haven’t read her Divergent series just because of how crazy hyped it is, but I’ve been really wanting to read this one.

I like it. Still prefer Arkos over Cyra though, but she had more development. Ryzek……lets not talk about him and what he made Eijeh massacre, that’s a more appropriate word for that.

You know, I have a love hate relationship with Veronica Roths books. I’m inwardly very very proud of someone with her tenacity to do what she has done. It’s quite incredible and the exception to the rule. However, after the great start of Divergent and the horrid quality of the remaining books in that series I’ve always been hesitant to want to read this book. You hit the nail on the head though, he writing style is slow. That can be great, like Diana Gabaldon, but other times Depending on the story and genre it can be painful. I was curious about this book, and perhaps I’ll still read it some day but it’s not at the top if my list.
Great non spoiler review, thank you!!!

Not meaning to be rude or anything, but will you be addressing the racism in this book?

That’s actually one of the reason why I rated a 62% for this book.

I didn’t even know this book existed, but I’ll have to give it a read now! Just out of curiosity, have you read Divergent? If so, what did you think?

I have read all three books in the Divergent trilogy and I loved all of them❤

I have read Crave the Mark and I may do a review. I liked it better then The Divergent series. I didn’t like that series I don’t know why maybe the writing was slow or it ended abruptly. But Carve the Mark was really really good, I can’t wait for the 2nd book.
